How to see your device screen without removing your sunglasses

11th Feb 2025

You probably know that when wearing polarised sunglasses you cannot easily see what’s on LCD screens or instruments with LED or LCD screens. It’s why pilots never wear polarised sunglasses. Increasingly portable devices like smartphones now use polarising filters on their screens to cut down glare.

So if you favour polarised sunglasses you may struggle to see anything on your device screen when wearing them. Without getting into the science of why this is (but in case you’re interested see ourEyewear Information section), there is a simple fix - turn your portable device through 90 degrees in either direction. This will align the polarising filter on your screen with the one on your sunglasses, and the light from your screen will be able to pass through to your eyes.
